Friends

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24)

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7 NIV)

For the person who needs friends:

Dear Lord Jesus, Thank you that YOU are the friend of sinners. You loved me even when I hated you. You loved me in spite of all of my weaknesses, in spite of the way that I treated you. You have come into this world and taught us what it is like to be a true friend...because you laid down your life for us. Lord, I need You. Help me to believe that You are the best friend that anyone could ever have. Help me to know that I belong to You and You belong to me. Help me to embrace you and to love you with all of my heart. And...help me to be that same kind of a friend to someone else - loving, wise, generous, encouraging, and self-sacrificing. Will you bring other friends into my life so that together they can walk close with You? Help me to understand what it means to be part of the body of Christ. Help me to be a blessing to others. Amen.

For the person who has been hurt by a friend:

Dear Lord God - we thank you for your amazing grace and forgiveness. When we’re honest with ourselves, we realize how often we hurt you and fail you. But your love is unconditional. In spite of our sins, you keep on loving us and wanting what is best for us. Lord, we realize that we live in a broken world - but we trust that you can and will repair this broken relationship, in your way and in your time. May forgiveness, love and unity replace pride, selfishness and division. Please restore our friendship. I surrender this request to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
