Marriage Problems
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Colossians 3:12-15)
“Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised.” (Song of Solomon 8:6-7)
“With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:2-3)
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. (Colossians 3:14)
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? (Ecclesiastes 4:9)
For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her. (Ephesians 5:25)
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24)
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12)
Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. (Mark 10:9)
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church… (Ephesians 5:25-33)
Let all that you do be done in love. (1 Corinthians 16:14)
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:8)
Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus… (Philippians 2:1-5

Dear Lord God, we are broken people living in a broken world. Sin breaks and destroys relationships, especially our relationship with You. We fail to put You first. We turn to others for our strength and affirmation and comfort. We expect them to fulfill our dreams and make us happy. And then we’re disappointed and devastated when they let us down. Father, please intervene in this marriage in a wonderful and powerful way. Please work in both of their hearts, showing them how much they need Jesus. Pour out your grace, your peace, your love and your will on them. Give them both forgiving hearts, ready to love each other they way that you love us. Direct their motives, their conversation and their actions. Please knit their hearts back together in love and unity. We surrender to you and to Your perfect will.
