y!
When we look through the window of prayer, we see God. True prayer begins and ends with Him... otherwise our conversations are one-sided -- just a hopeful dream or a fragile wish. But when we talk to God Himself, we can find great comfort and strength in His character and His reputation.
God, You are so awesome. You are an ever-present help in trouble and the Rock that is solid when everything else in my life is like quicksand. You know everything. You are everywhere. You are all-powerful. You are perfect in all of your ways. Nothing is impossible with You.
As we look through the window, we see a reflection of ourselves. We see the smudges that blur our vision. When we confess our sins, we realize that we are more sinful than we ever imagined, and yet - through Christ - we are more loved and accepted than we could ever dare hope. He took the punishment that I deserve.
Lord, as I begin to see myself more clearly.I realize that I have disobeyed you time and time again. I have shifted the blame to others. I have defended myself unjustly. I have turned my eyes away from You and I have made other people and things my idols. But I come once again to the Cross of Jesus where my guilt, my shame and my regrets are removed. Clear away the spots and stains, the blurred outlook, and everything that keeps me from seeing Jesus clearly. Help me to fix my eyes upon Him. Give me the desire, courage and strength to follow wherever You lead.
As we continue to look through the window of prayer, we see the beautiful things that God has done and continues to do. We give thanks.
Thank you for your salvation, your mercies and all of your gifts Thank you for being faithful even when I am faithless. Thank you for loving me even when I am unlovable. Thank you for not giving me the punishment that I deserve and for giving me the grace and mercy that I do not deserve. Thank you for all of my blessings — for my daily bread, for the beauty of the world, the joy of relationships, your peace that passes all understanding, and the hope of an eternity with you.
As we continue to look through the window, we hear the cries and see the reflections of those who are standing along side of us...asking us to intercede for them. If we're not careful, we can become overwhelmed with their requests, but as we keep looking through the glass, we see JESUS... our Intercessor who lives to intercede for us! (Hebrews 7:25)
As I look around, I see a broken, hurting world. I am broken and hurting. The people around me are broken and hurting. Only you, God, can fix us. We are so desperate for your intervention. Without you, we can do nothing - yet we keep trying to fix ourselves and others. Without you, we are hopelessly lost - and we keep wandering away from you instead of towards you. Jesus, you alone can rescue us. You have come to bring us life, love, joy and hope. I want your concerns to be my concerns, your desires to be my desires and your will to be my will. I want to lift these people up to you. I surrender their needsto You and trust that you will accomplish Your perfect plan in your way and in your time for your glory.
"We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us! But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love." (1 Corinthians 13:12-13 -from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.
Teach us, Lord, to trust steadily in You,
to hope in Your promises unswervingly, and
to love You and others extravagantly. AMEN.
